I have not had full-time group chat commitments since I was a teenager. Although I was annoyed by the amount of maintenance required for the average teen group chat in the mid-2010s, those chats were highly entertaining. There was always a stupid meme or random incident that group chat members could discuss 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These days, I am so much more practical with my texting. I text a lot to set up social engagements or send my loved ones tweets and posts that remind me of them, but then I remember that so many couples text each other about everything they do during their day, sparing no details. I text my best friends from college funny updates throughout my day, but I would never think to send them goodnight texts or text just for the sake of texting. But some people have full Douglas Sirk melodramas over text messages.

  • While group chats (especially family group chats) can be ripe for drama, a conflict between a parent and a child, one-on-one, brings out the worst. It elucidates much more about their relationship than a chat full of no-names. The following parents really went off the deep end.
